Day 1: Start With One Energy Question

Ever opened an electricity bill and wondered, “What am I actually paying for?” You are not alone. Energy bills can mix usage, rates, fees, and billing dates in ways that make a simple question feel complicated.

Welcome to Day 1 of BetterPlanet CoOp’s 30 Days for Smarter Energy. For the next 30 days, we will take one small step each day toward understanding energy and making more informed choices. No jargon test. No pressure to overhaul your home. Just one question, one insight, and one useful action.

Start with the question that matters most to you. Was your bill higher than expected? Do you want to understand the difference between usage and cost? Are you curious when your household uses the most power? Write down one question today. Keep it somewhere you can revisit at the end of the challenge.

Here is a helpful way to make it specific: “Why did my electricity bill increase this month?” becomes “Did I use more kilowatt-hours, did my rate change, or was this billing period longer?” Each possibility points to something different you can investigate.

Today’s action: Write down your one energy question. If you have a recent bill, identify its usage total, billing dates, and total amount due. Avoid sharing personal account details publicly.

Talk to My Energy (TTME) is working to help participating utilities and property partners explain energy information through clearer insights and AI-supported conversations. The customer-facing BetterPlanet experience is still in development; personal account views and AI features will depend on the final implementation and participating providers.

Follow BetterPlanet CoOp for the next daily lesson. Your first smarter-energy choice starts with curiosity.
